K. Rani is a prolific Indian Playback singer who has sung over 500 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali, Sinhala and Uzbek languages. She was the first female singer from India to sing in Sinhala and Uzbek language songs. Kamaraj felicitated her with the title ''Innisai Rani''. By nine, Rani was vocalising for lead characters in films like Kalyani, Kalyanam Panni Paar, Pelli Chesi Choodu, Dharma Devadhai and Dharma Devadha. She had a hit with ''Antha Bhranthi Yenaa'' (Telugu) and ''Ellaam Maayai Thaanaa'' (Tamil) from the film Devadasu in 1953. Rani first sang in Sri Lankan cinema for Sujatha in 1953 under the direction of composer Ananda Samarakoon. She subsequently contributed to Seda Sulang in 1955 and Sirimali in 1959. She was a much sought after playback singer in the 1950s. She had very few songs in the early 1960s. By then she concentrated in recording many Tamil Islamic songs with Nagore E. M. Hanifa.
